The actual amount Bland received appears to have been less than $4,100. Christian Dawkins, the chief executive of the fledgling company, testified in federal court last month that he pocketed the $13,000 bribe provided by an undercover FBI agent posing as an investor in the company, then gave Bland “between a thousand and two thousand dollars” to use at a friend’s bachelor party.

Brooklyn pill-mill trial starts for former state lawmaker, two health professionals  New York Daily News

Former Coney Island Assemblyman Alec Brook-Krasny, accused of scrubbing alcohol results for patients at a Brooklyn clinic that served as an opioids pill mill, was unwittingly following an unscrupulous doctor’s orders, his lawyer argued Monday. In opening statements in state Supreme Court in Brooklyn, the Russia-born lawmaker was portrayed as a faithful public servant who was pursuing the American dream and got blindsided by a pill-pushing M.D. Lazar Feygin, 72, pleaded guilty in March to felony charges related to his flooding the city with millions of illegal Oxycodone prescriptions from tw…

Brooklyn Eagle: Antonio Reynoso announces run for Brooklyn Borough President

Brooklyn Councilmember Antonio Reynoso announced on Monday morning that he is running for Brooklyn Borough President in a fundraising email sent out to supporters.

“I have some exciting news, and I wanted you to hear it from me: I’m running for Brooklyn Borough President!” he wrote.

Reynoso, who represents Williamsburg, Bushwick and Ridgewood, has not officially declared his candidacy. Only Councilmember Robert Cornegy, Jr. (who represents Bedford-Stuyvesant and Crown Heights) and Lamor Whitehead-Miller, a Crown Heights-based preacher and activist, have already filed for the 2021 Brooklyn borough president run, according to the New York City Campaign Finance Board.

“Fighting for North Brooklyn’s working families as a member of the City Council for the last six years has been an incredible privilege, but there’s still so much more work ahead of us,” Reynoso wrote. “We need to do more to protect affordability and equity in our borough.

“We need to continue to push for transparency from the NYPD and a justice system that does not criminalize poverty or any skin tone. And we need to ensure that our children have access to a high-quality and well-rounded education.”

Kristina Naplatarski, communications liaison for Reynoso, confirmed with the Brooklyn Eagle that he is running, but said his legislative office cannot take any inquires relating to his political campaign. She added that the contact information for his campaign has not yet been set up.

“There’s a total firewall between our office and his political campaign,” Naplatarski said. “We don’t handle any of that.”

Eric Adams, the current borough president, is widely believed to be running for mayor in 2021. He hasn’t declared his candidacy officially, but he already has a fundraising website that says “imagine what he will embark upon in 2021.”

Reynoso’s first fundraising campaign will be at Freehold in Williamsburg on June 18 from 5:30-8:30 p.m.

“I am so excited about the opportunity to contribute and make Brooklyn a better place for my son and for all our borough’s kids,” Reynoso wrote in the email.
